MLAX: Hofstra Announces 2017 Men’s Lacrosse Schedule

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney today announced the Pride’s 14-game, 2017 schedule that includes eight home games and road games at 2016 NCAA Division I National Champions, North Carolina, and NCAA Championship quarterfinalists, Towson.

After a series of scrimmages in late January and early February, Hofstra, which will return as a host of a NCAA Championship quarterfinal doubleheader in 2017, begins the regular season on Saturday, February 18 at home at James M. Shuart Stadium against the Hawks of Monmouth University. The match-up against Monmouth will be Hofstra’s first contest ever against the Hawks.

The Pride head into New Jersey on Saturday, February 25 to face the Tigers of Princeton University before returning to Shuart Stadium on Tuesday, February 28 to face the Highlanders of New Jersey Institute of Technology. The 7 p.m. starting time will be the Pride’s first of three night games of the season.

Hofstra will hit the road for two contests to open up the month of March as the Pride travel to Washington, D.C. to face the Hoyas of Georgetown University on Saturday, March 4 at noon before heading further south to Chapel Hill, NC a week later (March 11) to face the defending national champions, the Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina. In the Pride’s 2016 season opener, Hofstra upset the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, 10-5 before UNC began its run to the national title.

The Pride return home on Tuesday, March 14 to begin a four-game homestand. The Vikings of Cleveland State University, a new Division I men’s lacrosse program in 2017, make their first trip to Hofstra for a 7 p.m. contest. Providence College comes to Shuart Stadium on Saturday, March 18 for a 3 p.m. contest before local rival, Stony Brook University comes to Hofstra on Tuesday, March 21 for a 7 p.m. game. The Red Storm of St. John’s University wrap up the four-game homestand and the non-conference portion of Hofstra’s schedule on Saturday, March 25 at noon.

The month of April brings the start of the Colonial Athletic Association season and the Pride, who were 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the CAA in 2016, open up with road games at the Stags of Fairfield University on Saturday, April 1 and at the Blue Hens of the University of Delaware on Saturday, April 8. The Stags ended Hofstra’s 2016 season with an 11-8 decision in the CAA Championship semifinals last May.

Hofstra returns home to start a two-game homestand which includes the Dragons of Drexel University on Saturday, April 15 and the Minutemen of the University of Massachusetts on Saturday, April 22. Both games are 1 p.m. starts. The Pride wrap up the conference regular season on the road against the defending CAA champions, the Tigers of Towson University, on Saturday, April 29 at noon.

The CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship, featuring the top four teams during the regular season, will be held at the home of the highest seed on Thursday, May 4 for the semifinals, and Saturday, May 6 for the championship game.

The NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship tournament begins on Saturday and Sunday, May 13-14 with first round play at campus sites. Quarterfinal doubleheaders will be held at Hofstra on Saturday, May 20 and at Delaware on Sunday, May 21. The semifinals and championship game will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Saturday, May 27 and Monday, May 29.
