ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: MARK WARD
Q: What years did you play at Hofstra?
I played 1969, 1970 and 1971
Q: What position did you play?
I played Midfield in 1969 and 1970 and switched to Attack in 1971
Q: Who were your coaches?
Howdy Myers coached me all three years and Harry Royle was a graduate assistant.
Q: What was your experience like while playing for Hofstra?
The experience was great! I was a walk on in 1969 and won a starting position at attack my senior year. My memories at Hofstra will last a lifetime.
Q: What is your favorite memory while playing for Hofstra?
I have a lot of great memories but a personal highlight was scoring three goals in 1971 against #1 UVA and then playing in the first ever NCAA quarterfinal game. Only the top 8 ranked teams made the playoffs back then.
Q: Looking back, what’s one thing you took with you that you learned at Hofstra?
The one thing I took out of playing lacrosse at Hofstra was believing in myself and developing the confidence to take chances and to not be afraid of failing. Howdy was a great coach and believed in me.
Q: What advice would you give to a future or current Hofstra Lacrosse player?
Believe in yourself and play all out even in practice and never stop trying.
